Shillong

The cradle of cricket in the hills

Cricket was introduced to Shillong in the mid-1800s by British officials stationed there. Initially played for recreation, the game’s growing popularity led to the formal establishment of the Shillong Cricket Association (SCA) in 1937. The SCA introduced structured league cricket, which eventually led to the formation of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) in 1947, with SCA officials playing a key role. Despite Meghalaya gaining statehood in 1972, the SCA remained affiliated with the ACA until 2000, participating successfully in various regional tournaments. The association has a legacy of producing top-tier sports administrators, most notably Ratan Lal Singhania, who served as the President of the Assam Cricket Association in the late 1980s. Today, the SCA remains managed by a team of qualified professionals.

President,
Shillong Cricket Association

"

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Official Website of the Shillong Cricket Association.

Since its inception in 1937, the Shillong Cricket Association has played a significant role in promoting and developing cricket in Shillong and across the region now known as Meghalaya. Over the decades, the Association has remained steadfast in its commitment to identifying and nurturing young talent, contributing substantially to players representing the state in BCCI tournaments.

Currently, the Association supports about eighty-eight (88) affiliated clubs throughout the city, reflecting the depth and reach of cricket not only within the district but across the state of Meghalaya. In recent years, focused efforts have been undertaken to strengthen grassroots development through the SCA Academy for boys and girls, the organization of inter-school tournaments, and initiatives aimed at making cricket accessible to all sections of society.

Equal emphasis has also been placed on the development and upskilling of coaches, umpires, and technical personnel.

As we move forward, the Shillong Cricket Association remains dedicated to fostering excellence, inclusivity, and professionalism in cricket, while building a strong and sustainable foundation for the future of the sport in our State.
