Shillong
The cradle of cricket in the hills
Cricket was introduced to Shillong in the mid-1800s by British officials stationed there. Initially played for recreation, the game’s growing popularity led to the formal establishment of the Shillong Cricket Association (SCA) in 1937. The SCA introduced structured league cricket, which eventually led to the formation of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) in 1947, with SCA officials playing a key role. Despite Meghalaya gaining statehood in 1972, the SCA remained affiliated with the ACA until 2000, participating successfully in various regional tournaments. The association has a legacy of producing top-tier sports administrators, most notably Ratan Lal Singhania, who served as the President of the Assam Cricket Association in the late 1980s. Today, the SCA remains managed by a team of qualified professionals.
